Grr...customers...
Feb. 14th, 2010 11:55 pmI got to wake up late again...
Miki took me to the craft store and I picked up some spray-paint, no... I'm not a tagger or bomber. I need the paint to customize my ice skate, I'm tempted to repaint them.
After we finished shopping, we went to work two hours earlier to prepare for Valintine's Day.
I folded a lot of napkins and made more strawberries with Miki. At night the restaurant filled up again.
There was this one table that annoyed me.
They brought in one of those restaurant.com coupons(which really annoy me because we lose money) and when I totaled their check, they started complaining. The man at the table started yelling about why his bill subtotal came out to $400 when his check amount was only $40. I tried explaining that the credit card machine randomly chooses strange amounts sometimes (technical error). The confirmed amount really is $40, because that's the amount I typed into the machine, but the printing mechanism must have added an extra zero, it does that sometimes. Our machine is old and therefore the printing mechanism acts weird sometimes, don't accuse me of overcharging. After that issue, he then asked why the check amount was $40 in the first place, because with the restaurant.com coupon, it should've come out to around $29. I then explained that there is a "MANDATORY" 18% gratuity fee in the check. It's supposed to be added on because it is part of the terms and conditions on the coupon. The coupon states that restaurants must follow a specific procedure in billing customers who redeem these coupons. First I take the original subtotal and get the 18% amount, then I add that 18% into the subtotal. Next, I subtract the coupon's discount amount of that large total I got earlier. After that, the next amount is the discounted portion + tip included, so that means that the customer doesn't have to leave a tip.
The man just got angrier and said "TERMS?! no one cares about TERMS!!! Every restaurant I've used coupons at never added that silly gratuity, besides... people tend to tip higher than the gratuity! Next time I come here... YOU'D BETTER NOT ADD THAT STUPID GRATUITY, YOU GOT THAT!!!"
What is his problem? Rules are rules, what's the point of making "contract/user agreement" rules if no ones going to follow them. I follow rules and terms accordingly, I don't care what anyone else tells me. I'm bound by contract, I will total checks and audits by the rules that I must follow.
Oh yeah, I'm back in Chicago again.
I checked out my "Sands of Destruction" dvd, let's just say I'll have one of my projects up by tomorrow.
YEAH! "IT'S" BEEN CONFIRMED.
Until next time, bye everyone.
