After spending some time in Batavia for work, I now just realized that my accent, dialect, and terminology is REALLY different from the local Batavians. I know that people say that different regions of the US has different dialects, but Batavia is only 40 miles out of Chicago. The accents of western Illinoians and Chicagoans are completely different, even the word usage. Sometimes when I'm listening to customers over the phone or over the counter, they use words that I normally wouldn't hear. Batavian accents do sound a little southern to me, but that's just my opinion, not a fact. I find it interesting how I type formally on the internet, but this isn't how I speak in real life. To write using correct grammar and valid English is good practice for writing college papers. Out in the real world, I use a lot of Chicagoan words and slang, along with some form of "ghetto-ized" langauge. Sadly, my generation is full of posers who speak like Chicago south-siders... "cos they be talkin lik dis, don't be treatin jo... dem is fightin wordz." I'm from north-side Chicago, so... everytime I head south... I deal with people my age who talk like THAT. Its funny how the students who live south can't understand my northern accent or words.

Here are a few words from...
DA CHICAGO DICTIONARY:

Chi-town *shy~town*: the Chicagoan word for Chicago!

Da: How we say "the."

Frunch Room: front room (living room).

Sub: A sandwich made with breads like baguettes.

Pop: Any type of soft drink, don't ever say soda in Chi-town.

Cuppa-too-a-tree: A couple, two, or three?

Sliders: White Castle burgers

Jieetyet?: Did you eat yet?

BoysTown: Chicago's gay neighborhood.

DA "L": Trains that have routes to the Chicago Loop.

Jaagov: Bad word, don't use this unless you want to get killed.

Grachki: Garage key.

Isn't Chicago interesting?
CHI-TOWN BABY!!! DA BEARZ!!!
Okay... I'm just being weird.

Until next time, bye for now.
